Four stalwart ACSS members braved the summer heat to continue work on the ACSS greenhouse at Zilker Botanical Garden on Sunday, June 5. They were Doug Thieme, Jeff Poehlmann, and Jim Kennedy, with a guest appearance by long-time ACSS member Burford Westland. Doug and Jim did some weeding, removed more dead plants, potted up a lot of cuttings and repotted some plants long overdue. Jim reorganized the tables with all the raffle plants, making a lot of space. Doug continued to organize the North American and South American species on their own tables. Jim also did a some work organizing the Haworthias and Gasterias in their own space. Burford trimmed some of the Cylindropuntias in front of the greenhouse. Jeff got a much-needed new fan wired and running and installed, and also sanded and treated the metal cabinet he donated last month. He plans to paint it later this month. We also noticed a fairly bad hatch of hemipterans, which we'll need to spray soon. The group worked from 9:00 until 3:00, when the heat in the greenhouse was unbearable, despite the fans. The next member workday is scheduled for July 2, and it would be great to have more people show up.
